Premier League Tier List 2026-27: All 20 Clubs Ranked
Five games in and the Premier League already feels different. Pep Guardiola is gone and Manchester City haven't dropped a point, Arsenal are defending a title for the first time in over two decades, and Spurs are bottom after spending over £300 million.
We ranked all 20 clubs into six tiers, from genuine title contenders to the sides already staring at the drop. The table after five matches counts, but so do squads, summer business and new managers. Here's where we land.

SS Tier: Title Race

Manchester City
So much for life after Pep. Enzo Maresca has won his first five league games, only the sixth manager ever to do that at a Premier League club, and City sit top with 15 points. They lost Rodri to Barcelona and Bernardo Silva, but Erling Haaland is scoring and Elliot Anderson has slotted into midfield. The 5-3 win over Sunderland shows the defense isn't airtight yet.
About Manchester City
City won the treble in 2022-23 and four straight league titles from 2021 to 2024. Pep Guardiola stepped down in 2026 after 10 years in charge.

Arsenal
The 22-year wait is over, and the champions have started well with 12 points from 15. Mikel Arteta added Bruno Guimarães and Christos Tzolis to a squad already built around Declan Rice, William Saliba and Bukayo Saka. That 3-0 beating at Brighton was a wake-up call, but we still see a two-horse race with City.
About Arsenal
Founded in Woolwich in 1886, Arsenal moved to north London in 1913 and to the Emirates Stadium in 2006. They won the 2025-26 title, their first since the unbeaten 'Invincibles' season of 2003-04.

AA Tier: Top-Four Material

Liverpool
Arne Slot was sacked after a fifth-place finish, and Andoni Iraola's Liverpool haven't lost a competitive game yet. Alexander Isak already has four league goals, more than his entire tally last season. Three draws in five have them sixth, and replacing Mohamed Salah's output is the big question.
About Liverpool
Liverpool have won 20 league titles, most recently in 2024-25, plus six European Cups. They've played at Anfield since the club's founding in 1892.

Brighton & Hove Albion
Fabian Hürzeler's side have 16 goals in five games and put three past Arsenal without reply. They sold Carlos Baleba to United and Jan Paul van Hecke to Spurs and somehow got better, which is very Brighton. Third place might not last, but this is a legit European push.
About Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton have been in the Premier League since 2017 and play at the Amex Stadium in Falmer. They reached the FA Cup final in 1983.

Chelsea
Xabi Alonso's first weeks have been messy. Chelsea are 10th and have conceded 12 goals, the most in the division. Still, a front line of Cole Palmer, João Pedro and record signing Morgan Rogers is too good to stay mid-table, and most previews had them top four for a reason.
About Chelsea
Chelsea have played at Stamford Bridge since the club was founded in 1905. They've won six league titles and two Champions Leagues, in 2012 and 2021.

BB Tier: Chasing Europe

Manchester United
Michael Carrick's first full season began with a loss to promoted Hull City, and the derby defeat to City came with a VAR row over Haaland's goal. One win in five is not what anyone expected after a third-place finish last season. Carlos Baleba and Youri Tielemans should help once things settle.
About Manchester United
Founded as Newton Heath in 1878, United have won 20 league titles and three European Cups. Old Trafford is the biggest club stadium in England.

Aston Villa
Villa finished fourth last season, but the summer hurt, with Morgan Rogers off to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans to United. They're 16th with four points, though beating Spurs 3-2 was a start. Unai Emery has turned slow starts around before, and we'd bet on him doing it again.
About Aston Villa
Villa were founding members of the Football League in 1888 and won the European Cup in 1982. They've played at Villa Park since 1897.

Brentford
Keith Andrews has Brentford unbeaten and fourth after five games. Igor Thiago leads a line that has already scored 10, and new signings like Mamadou Sangaré have fit right in. Losing Jordan Henderson to Chelsea didn't slow them down one bit.
About Brentford
The west London club returned to the top flight in 2021 for the first time since 1947. They play at the Gtech Community Stadium, which opened in 2020.

Everton
David Moyes has built a tough team to beat, and Everton are unbeaten with only three goals conceded. The second season at Hill Dickinson Stadium brought in Brennan Johnson, Hayden Hackney and Christian Nørgaard. They're seventh, and Europe isn't a crazy idea.
About Everton
Everton have spent more seasons in the English top flight than any other club and have nine league titles. They left Goodison Park for the new Hill Dickinson Stadium in 2025.

Leeds United
Nobody predicted Leeds would be fifth and unbeaten. Daniel Farke's side have conceded just three, helped by new goalkeeper James Trafford, and Harry Wilson arrived on a free from Fulham. We're buying, though a push for Europe would be a big ask.
About Leeds United
Leeds have played at Elland Road since the club was formed in 1919. Their three league titles came in 1969, 1974 and 1992.

CC Tier: Stuck in the Middle

Newcastle United
Eddie Howe walked away in late July, and Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães all left too. Matthias Jaissle has done well to get eight points and ninth place out of that chaos. A soft run of fixtures would help this rebuilt squad find its feet.
About Newcastle United
Newcastle's four league titles all came before 1930. They ended a long trophy drought by winning the League Cup in 2025.

AFC Bournemouth
It's a strange year on the south coast. Andoni Iraola left for Liverpool after a sixth-place finish, Antoine Semenyo is gone, and new boss Marco Rose is juggling the club's first European campaign. Three draws and two losses have them 17th.
About AFC Bournemouth
Bournemouth reached the top flight for the first time in 2015. Their sixth-place finish in 2025-26 earned the club its first European campaign.

Nottingham Forest
Forest went through four managers last season, so Oliver Glasner is being asked to bring some calm. Selling Elliot Anderson to City hurts, but keeping Morgan Gibbs-White matters. They're 13th with five points, and the defense has been stingy.
About Nottingham Forest
Under Brian Clough, Forest won the league in 1978 and then back-to-back European Cups in 1979 and 1980. They've played at the City Ground since 1898.

Crystal Palace
Pierre Sage replaced Oliver Glasner, and the squad around him has been gutted, with Marc Guéhi, Maxence Lacroix, Adam Wharton and Jean-Philippe Mateta among those gone. One win in five has them 15th. New faces like Yéremy Pino need time.
About Crystal Palace
Palace have played at Selhurst Park in south London since 1924. They won the FA Cup in 2025, the first major trophy in club history.

Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs spent over £300 million, hired Roberto De Zerbi and sit dead last with two points. They went four league games without a goal before a 3-2 loss at Villa. Cristian Romero's exit to Atlético stings, but with Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke in, we're backing them to climb out fast.
About Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs won the league and FA Cup double in 1961 and lifted the Europa League in 2025. They moved into Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019.

DD Tier: Looking Over Their Shoulder

Hull City
Back in the top flight for the first time in nine years through the playoffs, Hull beat Manchester United on opening weekend and sit eighth with eight points. Sergej Jakirović's side are hard to break down. We still think they're in a relegation fight long term, just a winnable one.
About Hull City
Hull won promotion back to the Premier League through the 2026 Championship playoffs. The Tigers reached their only FA Cup final in 2014.

Sunderland
Last season's seventh-place finish was a dream, and this year looks harder. Régis Le Bris' team are 14th with four points after shipping five at City. Granit Xhaka is still running the midfield, so they won't go quietly.
About Sunderland
Sunderland have six English league titles, the last in 1936. They moved into the Stadium of Light in 1997.

Ipswich Town
Kieran McKenna left after promotion, and Gary O'Neil has Ipswich 11th with two wins. Signings like Saša Lukić bring Premier League experience this time around. Ten goals conceded in five games is the warning sign.
About Ipswich Town
Under Alf Ramsey, Ipswich won the league title in 1962, just a year after promotion. Bobby Robson's side later won the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981.

FF Tier: Relegation Scrap

Fulham
Marco Silva's contract ran out, Raúl Jiménez and Harry Wilson left, and Álvaro Arbeloa's Fulham are 19th without a win. Young striker Gonzalo García is the big hope. The squad has plenty of experience, but it's been a flat start.
About Fulham
Fulham have played at Craven Cottage on the banks of the Thames since 1896. Their best European run took them to the 2010 Europa League final.

Coventry City
Frank Lampard got Coventry back to the top flight after 25 years away as Championship winners. The reality check has been harsh: one goal scored in five games and 18th place. Taiwo Awoniyi was brought in to fix the scoring problem, and he'll need to do it quickly.
About Coventry City
Coventry won the FA Cup in 1987 and spent 34 straight seasons in the top flight until 2001. They returned to the Premier League in 2026 as Championship winners.

How we ranked them
This list reflects the consensus from preseason and early-season power rankings, pundit predictions and what supporters are saying on Reddit and club forums, checked against the table after five matchdays. Where opinion splits, like on Chelsea, Spurs and a surprising Leeds, we took a side and said so. It's our take on how the season will finish, not just a copy of the table, and we'll update it as the campaign goes on.
