November/December 2026 Movies Ranked

Late 2026 is absolute chaos in the best way. You've got Marvel's biggest swing in years, the end of Dune, a Hunger Games prequel, a new Godzilla, and a Fincher movie built from a shelved Tarantino script, all landing within about eight weeks of each other.

We ranked all 13 of the season's big titles based on what critics and fans are actually saying right now: early reactions, festival buzz, and plain old hype. Some of this will shuffle once reviews land for real. Think we got one wrong? That's what the comments are for.

1 Avengers: Doomsday

This is the biggest release of the whole season and it isn't close. Pre-sales are already in the millions before most people have seen a frame of footage, and Marvel is clearly treating December 18 as a line in the sand for the franchise. When the internet argues about which movie matters most this winter, it's arguing about this one.

About Avengers: Doomsday

An upcoming Avengers film reportedly bringing Robert Downey Jr. back to the MCU in a new role. Specific plot and release details have not been fully confirmed.

2 Wicked: For Good

The first half proved this story could fill theaters and break hearts, and the back half of the tale brings the stakes home. Expect the Elphaba and Glinda fallout to hit even harder with the songs fans have been waiting on. A lock for one of the biggest openings of the holiday season.

About Wicked: For Good

The second part of the two-film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, continuing the story of Elphaba and Glinda as it follows the events of the musical's second act. It stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, reprising their roles from the first film, and is directed by Jon M. Chu.

3 The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

A young Haymitch story during the second Quarter Quell sounds like exactly the angle this franchise needed. First reactions are overwhelmingly positive, and the built-in fanbase from the books and earlier films gives it a floor that most November releases don't have.

4. Zootopia 2

Judy and Nick are back and the first film's charm and sharp writing carry over nicely. It's a safe box office bet that should play well with families over the holiday stretch. Not groundbreaking, but a reliable crowd pleaser that lands comfortably behind the two biggest tentpoles of the season.

About Zootopia 2

An animated sequel to Disney's 2016 hit Zootopia, bringing back police officer Judy Hopps and con artist fox Nick Wilde for a new mystery in the animal metropolis of Zootopia. The film is produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios.

5. Wild Horse Nine

Martin McDonagh doing his verbal-absurdist thing with John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell is basically a guarantee of sharp, uncomfortable dialogue. It's showing up in top-five lists from critics already, which is rare for a film with this little mainstream marketing muscle.

About Wild Horse Nine

Martin McDonagh's drama set during the 1973 Chilean coup. Received strong recognition at the Venice Film Festival.

6. La Règle du Jeu (The Rules of the Game)

A 4K restoration of Jean Renoir's 1939 film isn't competing for box office, but critics are treating this re-release as essential viewing. If you've never caught it on a big screen, late November is your chance, and it's the kind of movie that rewards a theater over a laptop.

About La Règle du Jeu (The Rules of the Game)

A 4K restoration re-release of Jean Renoir's 1939 French classic, widely regarded as one of the most important films in cinema history.

7. The Mosquito Bowl

A war drama with sports film DNA is an unusual combo, and Netflix seems to be banking on that mix to pull in viewers who wouldn't normally seek out either genre alone. It's generating real interest even without the marketing push of the bigger titles around it.

About The Mosquito Bowl

An upcoming war film based on the true story of a 1944 football game played by U.S. Marines on the island of Guadalcanal during World War II, shortly before many of them went on to fight in the brutal Battle of Okinawa. The project is inspired by the nonfiction book 'The Mosquito Bowl' by Buzz Bissinger.

How we ranked them

We weighed critical reception where it exists (festival and early reviews), the size and track record of the franchise or filmmaker behind each film, and how much fans are actually talking about it right now. Blockbuster scale matters, but so does a tight, well-reviewed smaller film. Where the research shows a real split between critics and fans, we picked a side and said so.
