Avengers Movies Ranked: Every Team-Up Tier Listed
Five movies, one team, a whole lot of property damage. We're ranking every Avengers film from the 2012 original that basically invented the modern team-up blockbuster, through the two Infinity Saga finales that made a trillion dollars between them, up to the still-unreleased Doomsday.
This is based on what fans and critics generally agree on across reviews and forum debates, with our own take where the arguments get heated (and with this franchise, they always do). Disagree with where something landed? That's half the fun of a tier list.

SS Tier: The genuine masterpieces

Avengers: Endgame
Three hours long and it still feels earned. The time-heist structure gives every character a job to do, and the final battle where every portal opens is the kind of fan-service payoff that actually works because you spent ten years waiting for it. Some say the first hour drags, but the ending sticks the landing better than almost any blockbuster in memory.
About Avengers: Endgame
The 2019 follow-up to Infinity War, in which the surviving Avengers use time travel to undo the Snap. It became one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
- Released
- 2019
- Directors
- Anthony and Joe Russo

Avengers: Infinity War
A villain movie disguised as a team-up, and it's better for it. Thanos actually has a philosophy, however twisted, and the snap ending took real guts for a Disney-owned franchise. Splitting the heroes into smaller groups across the galaxy keeps a 20-plus person cast from feeling crowded.
About Avengers: Infinity War
The 2018 film in which Thanos hunts down the Infinity Stones across the galaxy while the Avengers scramble to stop him. It ends with the Snap, wiping out half of all life in the universe.
- Released
- 2018
- Directors
- Anthony and Joe Russo
AA Tier: Where it all started

The Avengers
Joss Whedon's script is still the funniest in the series, and the Battle of New York set the template every team-up movie has copied since. It doesn't have the scale of the later films, but it didn't need to: this was the one that proved a shared universe could actually work on screen.
About The Avengers
The 2012 film that brought together Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye for the first time, directed by Joss Whedon. It centers on the team stopping Loki and an alien invasion of New York.
- Released
- 2012
- Director
- Joss Whedon
BB Tier: Fun but overstuffed

Avengers: Age of Ultron
James Spader's Ultron is a genuinely fun villain with some great lines, but the movie is stuffed with setup for other films (hello, random vision of a future Thanos) that slows the momentum. The Hulkbuster fight is a highlight; the Natasha-Bruce romance subplot is the part fans argue about most, and not kindly.
About Avengers: Age of Ultron
The 2015 sequel where the team battles an AI villain, Ultron, created by Tony Stark and voiced by James Spader. It introduces Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Vision to the MCU.
- Released
- 2015
- Director
- Joss Whedon
CC Tier: Too early to say

Avengers: Doomsday
Hard to rank a movie nobody's seen yet, so this spot is about uncertainty, not quality. Robert Downey Jr. returning as Doctor Doom is either a bold swing or a sign the well's running dry, depending who you ask online. We'll move it the second trailers and reviews give us something real to judge.
About Avengers: Doomsday
An upcoming Avengers film reportedly bringing Robert Downey Jr. back to the MCU in a new role. Specific plot and release details have not been fully confirmed.

How we ranked them
We weighed how each film holds up as a standalone watch, how well it balanced a packed ensemble cast, its impact on the broader MCU, and whether the big finale actually earned its payoff. Rewatchability and critical reception both factored in too. For Doomsday, which hasn't released yet, placement reflects anticipation and track record rather than a verdict on the finished film.

Rank these yourselfFAQ
What is the best Avengers movie?
Most fans and critics point to Avengers: Endgame or Avengers: Infinity War as the high points of the series, with Endgame often edging ahead for how it pays off a decade of setup.
What is the weakest Avengers movie?
Avengers: Age of Ultron is usually seen as the weakest of the released films, mostly because it's overloaded with setup for future movies at the expense of its own story.
Is Avengers: Doomsday out yet?
No, Doomsday has not been released yet, so this ranking treats it as a wildcard based on anticipation rather than a finished film.
Do you need to watch the Avengers movies in order?
Watching them in release order (The Avengers, Age of Ultron, Infinity War, Endgame) gives you the clearest sense of how the story and characters build toward the finale.
Why is Infinity War ranked above Age of Ultron?
Infinity War has a stronger, more focused villain in Thanos and a bolder ending, while Age of Ultron is widely seen as spending too much time setting up future MCU movies.
