Jedi Tier List: Every Major Jedi Ranked

Twelve Jedi (and one Mandalorian-adjacent kid who counts as an honorary one), ranked from legendary to "maybe sit this one out." We're covering movies, shows, books and games here, from Qui-Gon's death in a tatooine dust storm all the way to Cal Kestis crawling through tombs nobody asked him to visit.

This list leans on what fans actually argue about on forums and in review threads, not just raw lightsaber skill. Power matters, but so does story impact, growth and whether the character actually changes how we think about the Force. Disagree with where we put Rey or Mace? Good. That's the point. Rank it yourself and see where you land.

SS Tier: The icons who define what a Jedi is

Yoda

Yoda

900 years old and still the measuring stick for what Force mastery looks like. He trained Luke in a swamp with nothing but cryptic one-liners and somehow it worked. The duel with Palpatine in the Senate rotunda alone earns him top billing.

Luke Skywalker

He goes from moisture farmer to the guy who redeems Darth Vader by throwing away his lightsaber in front of the Emperor. That throne room scene in Return of the Jedi is the whole saga's thesis statement. Few arcs in any franchise land that clean.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

He's the thread connecting the entire saga, master to Anakin, mentor to Luke, and the guy who says "hello there" like it's a death sentence. Losing to Vader, raising Luke in secret on Tatooine, then outlasting his own grief, that's a complete character, not just a cool guy with a saber.

The Chosen One earns S tier on raw power alone. Few in galactic history could match his lightsaber skill or Force potential, and his fall to the dark side only proves how dangerous that strength was. He belongs with the legends, even if his choices didn't always match his talent.

Mace Windu

Mace Windu

Master of Vaapad and the only man who ever had Palpatine on the ropes. His swordsmanship rivals Yoda's and his sheer combat record against Sith puts him in the top tier, not stuck in the middle of the pack. Criminally underused by the council's own standards, but by the blade he belongs with the legends.

AA Tier: Legends with one real knock against them

Ahsoka Tano

Ahsoka Tano

She walked away from the Jedi Order before it could fail her, which in hindsight is the smartest move anyone in this list makes. Her arc across Clone Wars and Rebels, ending up hunting Thrawn, gives her more growth than most Jedi who actually kept their rank.

Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn

He's only in one movie and still manages to reshape the entire saga by finding a slave kid on Tatooine and insisting he's the Chosen One. His maverick streak, bending Jedi rules, trusting his gut, is the reason Yoda and Obi-Wan end up rethinking everything.

Rey

This is where fandom actually splits hardest. Some see a well-earned hero who trains herself out of necessity and faces Palpatine alone; others think the sequel trilogy never gave her a real arc. We land on A: her raw talent and the choice to take the Skywalker name at the end carries real weight.

Count Dooku

A former Jedi Master who left the Order, which already tells you how good he was before he ever turned. His swordsmanship nearly bested Yoda himself and his command of the Force was elite even among the greats. He lands in A tier because his fall to the Sith means his time as a true Jedi was cut short, but the skill on display was undeniable.

BB Tier: Great Jedi, just not quite top shelf

Kanan Jarrus

Kanan Jarrus

A Jedi who survived Order 66 by burying his identity, then slowly became a real mentor to Ezra on Rebels. His death saving the crew from a fiery reactor is one of the show's hardest gut-punches, and it earns every bit of the buildup.

Ezra Bridger

Ezra Bridger

A street kid turned Jedi who disappears into hyperspace with Grand Admiral Thrawn to save his crew, a genuinely bold ending for a Star Wars protagonist. His connection to the World Between Worlds and the purrgil makes him one of the stranger, more interesting Jedi on this list.

Cal Kestis
Cover: Wikipedia

Cal Kestis

A survivor of Order 66 who had to rebuild his training from scratch, mostly through trial and error and a lot of falling off cliffs. He's resourceful and his connection to the Force grows fast, but he's still rough around the edges compared to Jedi who had proper Temple training. Solid C tier material, promising but unfinished.

Grogu
Cover: Wikipedia

Grogu

Strong with the Force and clearly gifted, but still a student with no real track record of trials passed or battles won on his own merit. He's ridden more on cuteness and raw potential than on actual accomplishments so far. Give him a few decades of training and he could climb a long way, but right now C tier is fair.

How we ranked them

We weighed four things: combat skill and Force ability, impact on the overall saga, depth of character arc, and how fans and critics talk about them across forums, reviews and retrospectives. A great duelist with a thin arc lands lower than a flawed character who changes everything. Where fandom is genuinely split, we picked a side and explained why.

FAQ

Who is the strongest Jedi on this list?

Yoda is widely considered the most powerful in raw Force ability, though Luke and Anakin arguably surpass him in specific duels later in their stories.

Is Rey actually a Jedi?

Yes, by the end of the sequel trilogy she's trained in the ways of the Force and takes up the Skywalker name, though fans debate how earned that journey feels.

Why isn't Grogu ranked higher?

He's beloved and clearly strong with the Force, but as a character he's still mostly defined by cuteness rather than a developed arc, at least so far.

Is Ahsoka Tano still a Jedi?

Technically no, she left the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars, but she continues to use the Force and fight for the same ideals, which is why fans still group her with Jedi in spirit.

Why is Cal Kestis ranked below Ezra Bridger?

Both have strong survival arcs after Order 66, but Ezra's story reaches a wider audience through Rebels and ties into the broader saga, while Cal's is mostly known to players of the Jedi games.
