Seasons Tier List: Ranking Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter
Four seasons, one eternal argument. Everybody's got a favorite and everybody's convinced the other three are overrated, underrated or just plain miserable.
We went through the endless forum threads, reviews of "best season" debates and the usual group-chat wars to see where people actually land. Then we added our own take where the arguments split down the middle. Here's how the four seasons stack up, tier by tier. Fight us in the comments.

SS Tier: The undisputed favorite

Fall
The one nobody argues with. Comfortable temperatures, the leaves doing their whole color-change routine, sweaters you can actually wear without sweating through them, and a straight run of holidays from Halloween through Thanksgiving. People who say they have a favorite season almost always mean this one.
About Fall
Also called autumn, the season between summer and winter, known for cooling temperatures and changing leaf colors.
- Months (Northern Hemisphere)
- September to November
- Known for
- Changing leaves, harvest holidays, cooler weather
AA Tier: Beloved, just a little unreliable

Spring
Spring gets a lot of goodwill for showing up right when everyone's sick of winter, and the first warm week genuinely feels like a reward. The catch is it's inconsistent: one day it's shorts weather, the next it's cold rain and allergies. Still, nothing beats the first outdoor meal of the year.
About Spring
The transitional season between winter and summer, marked by warming temperatures, blooming plants and increasing daylight.
- Months (Northern Hemisphere)
- March to May
- Known for
- Blooming flowers, mild weather, allergy season
BB Tier: Good on paper, rough by the end

Summer
Summer wins on vacation time, long evenings and the sheer amount of stuff packed into it, but ask around and plenty of people admit the heat wears them down by August. It's the season people are most excited about in May and most tired of by late July.
About Summer
The warmest season of the year, associated with school breaks, vacations and long daylight hours.
- Months (Northern Hemisphere)
- June to August
- Known for
- Heat, vacations, longest days of the year
CC Tier: Has its moments, overstays its welcome

Winter
Winter has its moment, the holidays, the first snow, the excuse to stay inside, but that moment is basically December. The months after it are the ones people complain about most: short days, gray skies, roads nobody wants to deal with. Fans are genuinely split here, some love the coziness, others count down the days until it's over, and we're siding with the majority who are just tired of it by February.
About Winter
The coldest season, bringing shorter days, and in many regions, snow and ice.
- Months (Northern Hemisphere)
- December to February
- Known for
- Cold weather, holidays, shortest days of the year
How we ranked them
We weighed weather comfort, what you can actually do outside, the food and holidays attached to each season, and how people talk about them in everyday conversation versus how they talk about them online. A season that's beloved in theory but miserable in practice gets marked down. One that's quietly excellent but under-hyped gets a bump.

Rank these yourselfFAQ
What is the most popular season among fans?
Fall consistently comes out on top in surveys and casual polls, thanks to mild weather and the stretch of holidays packed into it.
Is summer or winter more disliked?
It's close, but winter tends to rank lower overall. Summer gets credit for vacation time while winter's cold and short days wear people down faster.
Why is spring not ranked higher?
Spring is loved for ending winter but criticized for being unpredictable, swinging between warm days and cold snaps, plus allergy season.
Do people's favorite seasons depend on where they live?
Yes. Preferences shift a lot by climate and region, someone in a hot climate may rank winter higher, while someone used to mild winters may rank fall or spring higher. Our ranking reflects the broader, general consensus.
