MBTI Personality Types Tier List: Ranked by Internet Vibes

Sixteen letters, sixteen personalities, one endless internet argument about which ones are actually "the best." This tier list ranks all 16 MBTI types based on how they tend to come across online and in everyday life: how fun they are, how functional, how often they end up running the group project versus avoiding it entirely.

This isn't a clinical ranking of psychological validity (that's a different, much drier conversation). It's about reputation, vibe, and the running jokes that follow each type around forums like r/mbti and beyond. Disagree with where your type landed? Good. That's kind of the whole sport here. Rank it yourself and see if you still love your letters.

SS Tier: The crowd favorites

INFJ (Advocate)

INFJ (Advocate)

The rarest type and the internet never lets you forget it. INFJs get mythologized as the deep, mysterious, old-soul friend who somehow also ghosts you for three weeks. The reputation is a little inflated, but the warmth-plus-insight combo is real, which is why this type anchors so many 'which type is secretly best' threads.

About INFJ (Advocate)

One of the 16 Myers-Briggs types, defined by introversion, intuition, feeling and judging. Known in pop psychology circles as the rarest type.

Function stack
Ni-Fe-Ti-Se
Reputation
Deep, private, idealistic
INTJ (Architect)
Name card: Rank Parade

INTJ (Architect)

The chess-playing mastermind stereotype gets memed to death, but INTJs consistently top 'most respected' polls for a reason: competence that doesn't need an audience. Ask one a question and you get an actual answer, not a vibe. The coldness complaints are usually just people mistaking efficiency for disinterest.

About INTJ (Architect)

An introverted, intuitive, thinking, judging type often associated with strategic thinking and independence.

Function stack
Ni-Te-Fi-Se
Reputation
Strategic, blunt, self-sufficient
ENFP (Campaigner)

ENFP (Campaigner)

Warm, curious, a little chaotic, and somehow the type most people say they'd want at a party and at 2am talking about the meaning of life. ENFPs get teased for starting ten projects and finishing two, but nobody disputes they're fun to be around. Consistently lands near the top of 'favorite type' polls.

About ENFP (Campaigner)

An extraverted, intuitive, feeling, perceiving type known for enthusiasm, creativity and sociability.

Function stack
Ne-Fi-Te-Si
Reputation
Warm, spontaneous, idea-driven

AA Tier: Genuinely well-liked

ENTP (Debater)

ENTP (Debater)

Beloved for the quick wit, resented for using it to argue the opposite of whatever you just said. ENTPs are the type most likely to turn a casual dinner into a debate about free will. Exhausting in large doses, genuinely magnetic in small ones.

About ENTP (Debater)

An extraverted, intuitive, thinking, perceiving type known for quick thinking and love of debate.

Function stack
Ne-Ti-Fe-Si
Reputation
Witty, argumentative, inventive
INTP (Logician)
Name card: Rank Parade

INTP (Logician)

The type most likely to explain a joke's structure instead of laughing at it, and somehow still beloved for it. INTPs get a reputation as the internet's favorite 'relatable nerd,' all tangents and half-finished theories, but the actual insight underneath keeps people coming back.

About INTP (Logician)

An introverted, intuitive, thinking, perceiving type associated with abstract thinking and curiosity.

Function stack
Ti-Ne-Si-Fe
Reputation
Analytical, tangential, independent-minded
ISTP (Virtuoso)

ISTP (Virtuoso)

Quietly competent, famously low-drama. ISTPs are the type people describe as 'the one who just fixes it' without announcing anything first. They don't dominate online discourse because they're usually not online arguing about MBTI, which is somehow part of the appeal.

About ISTP (Virtuoso)

An introverted, sensing, thinking, perceiving type known for practical problem solving and hands-on skill.

Function stack
Ti-Se-Ni-Fe
Reputation
Calm, capable, independent
ENTJ (Commander)

ENTJ (Commander)

Gets cast as the ambitious boss-type in every MBTI meme, and the stereotype isn't wrong, just incomplete. ENTJs are respected more than loved, admired for getting things done, occasionally resented for the same reason. Still, 'effective' beats 'likable' in enough rooms to earn A tier.

About ENTJ (Commander)

An extraverted, intuitive, thinking, judging type often linked to leadership and ambition.

Function stack
Te-Ni-Se-Fi
Reputation
Decisive, driven, direct

BB Tier: Solid, dependable, slightly underrated

ISFJ (Defender)

ISFJ (Defender)

The type everyone agrees is lovely and nobody talks about enough. ISFJs quietly run households, offices and friend groups without asking for credit, which is exactly why they get overlooked in a discourse that rewards loud personalities.

About ISFJ (Defender)

An introverted, sensing, feeling, judging type known for reliability and quiet care for others.

Function stack
Si-Fe-Ti-Ne
Reputation
Loyal, dependable, modest
ENFJ (Protagonist)

ENFJ (Protagonist)

Charismatic, organized, genuinely good at making people feel seen, and occasionally accused of being a little too polished about it. The 'natural leader' label follows ENFJs everywhere, for better and for worse.

About ENFJ (Protagonist)

An extraverted, intuitive, feeling, judging type associated with charisma and natural leadership.

Function stack
Fe-Ni-Se-Ti
Reputation
Charismatic, organized, people-focused
INFP (Mediator)

INFP (Mediator)

The type most associated with poetry, daydreaming and a Tumblr-era softness that never fully went away. INFPs get genuine affection online, but also the most jokes about crying over a song lyric instead of doing the dishes.

About INFP (Mediator)

An introverted, intuitive, feeling, perceiving type known for idealism and strong personal values.

Function stack
Fi-Ne-Si-Te
Reputation
Imaginative, sensitive, values-driven
ISTJ (Logistician)
Photo: Dr. Marcus Gossler, CC BY-SA 3.0 (Wikimedia Commons)

ISTJ (Logistician)

The most common type and the least glamorous online, which feels unfair given how much ISTJs actually hold together: schedules, systems, families, companies. 'Reliable' doesn't trend, but it works.

About ISTJ (Logistician)

An introverted, sensing, thinking, judging type and, by most estimates, one of the most common MBTI types.

Function stack
Si-Te-Fi-Ne
Reputation
Reliable, structured, practical

CC Tier: Fine, but polarizing

ISFP (Adventurer)
Photo: Ariel Waldman from Muncie, CC BY-SA 2.0 (Wikimedia Commons)

ISFP (Adventurer)

Artistic and easygoing, but underdiscussed compared to louder types, so the reputation stays vague: 'nice, does art, hard to read.' ISFPs deserve more credit than the discourse gives them, honestly.

About ISFP (Adventurer)

An introverted, sensing, feeling, perceiving type associated with artistic sensibility and flexibility.

Function stack
Fi-Se-Ni-Te
Reputation
Gentle, creative, easygoing
ESTP (Entrepreneur)
Photo: Steffen Prößdorf, CC BY-SA 4.0 (Wikimedia Commons)

ESTP (Entrepreneur)

Fun at the party, occasionally reckless with other people's feelings or money. ESTPs get both the 'life of the room' praise and the 'can't sit still long enough to actually listen' complaint, often in the same thread.

About ESTP (Entrepreneur)

An extraverted, sensing, thinking, perceiving type known for boldness and quick action.

Function stack
Se-Ti-Fe-Ni
Reputation
Energetic, risk-taking, blunt
ESTJ (Executive)

ESTJ (Executive)

Respected for competence, frequently cast as the rigid rule-enforcer in every MBTI tier list joke ever made. ESTJs keep things running on time, which not everyone thanks them for.

About ESTJ (Executive)

An extraverted, sensing, thinking, judging type associated with organization and traditional leadership.

Function stack
Te-Si-Ne-Fi
Reputation
Orderly, direct, efficient

DD Tier: Frequently misunderstood (or just difficult)

ESFP (Entertainer)
Photo: PinkBeachPlanet, CC BY-SA 4.0 (Wikimedia Commons)

ESFP (Entertainer)

Genuinely fun, genuinely the type most often accused of having zero chill. ESFPs get stereotyped as all party, no plan, a reputation that's funny until you actually need someone to think three steps ahead.

About ESFP (Entertainer)

An extraverted, sensing, feeling, perceiving type known for spontaneity and love of being the center of attention.

Function stack
Se-Fi-Te-Ni
Reputation
Fun, impulsive, sociable

FF Tier: The internet's favorite punching bag

ESFJ (Consul)
Photo: Hans Bernhard Schwerin, Public domain (Wikimedia Commons)

ESFJ (Consul)

The most consistently dragged type in MBTI discourse, usually painted as image-obsessed and conflict-averse to a fault. It's probably harsher than deserved since ESFJs genuinely hold communities together, but the internet has made up its mind on this one.

About ESFJ (Consul)

An extraverted, sensing, feeling, judging type known for sociability and attentiveness to group harmony.

Function stack
Fe-Si-Ne-Ti
Reputation
Sociable, caring, image-conscious

How we ranked them

We pulled together what shows up again and again in MBTI forums, subreddits, YouTube comment sections and personality blogs: which types get called "effortless," which get called "exhausting," which ones everyone secretly wants to be. We weighed likability, competence, and cultural reputation together, then broke ties with our own read of the discourse. Where the fandom is split (and it often is), we picked a side and said so.

FAQ

What is the rarest MBTI type?

INFJ is generally cited as the rarest type, which is a big part of why it has such an outsized, almost mythical reputation online.

What is the most common MBTI type?

ISTJ and ISFJ are usually cited as among the most common types, which may explain why they get less discourse despite doing a lot of the quiet heavy lifting.

Which MBTI type is considered the most liked?

ENFP and INFJ consistently top 'favorite type' polls and forum threads for their warmth and perceived depth.

Which MBTI type gets the most hate online?

ESFJ tends to get the harshest treatment in MBTI communities, often unfairly, usually painted as superficial or overly image-conscious.

Is this ranking scientifically validated?

No. MBTI itself is debated in psychology circles as a personality framework. This list ranks cultural reputation and online sentiment, not clinical validity.

Can my MBTI type change over time?

Many people report testing differently at different life stages, which is part of why MBTI is treated more as a fun framework than a fixed scientific category.
