European Countries Tier List: Ranked From Must-Visit to Skip
We ranked all 25 of these European countries the way travelers actually argue about them online: food, scenery, culture, value, and that hard-to-fake feeling of "I need to go back." This isn't about GDP or politics. It's about what it's like to actually visit, or dream about visiting.
Some picks will annoy somebody, that's the nature of a list like this. Disagree? That's half the fun. Rank them yourself and see where the gaps are.

How we ranked them
We weighed scenery and variety of landscape, food and drink culture, historical depth, ease and cost of travel, and that intangible "would people fly across the ocean just for this" factor. We leaned on what shows up again and again in travel forums, critic reviews, and traveler surveys, then made our own calls where the consensus splits, especially around value-for-money and underrated gems.

Rank these yourselfFAQ
What's the most underrated country in Europe?
Slovenia and Montenegro come up constantly in traveler discussions as places that surprise people, usually because word hasn't spread as fast as the scenery deserves.
Which European country is the best value for money?
Portugal and Bulgaria are the two most mentioned, offering Western European scenery and food at Eastern European prices, though Portugal has gotten pricier as it's gotten more popular.
Is Croatia better than Italy for a coastal trip?
Croatia's coastline is less crowded and arguably more dramatic in places, but Italy still wins on food, art, and sheer range of things to do, which is why it edges out Croatia here.
Why is Ukraine ranked so low on this list?
It's not a reflection of the country's beauty or history, both of which are considerable. It's simply not a safe or practical travel destination at the moment.
Is Monaco worth visiting if it's so small?
Yes, for a day trip or a weekend. It's one of the smallest countries in the world, so it's not a place to build a whole itinerary around.
