MCU Movies Ranked: Every Marvel Film From Best to Worst

Thirty-six movies, one massive multiverse, and roughly a thousand arguments about where Thor: Love and Thunder actually belongs. With Avengers: Doomsday looming in December 2026 and Robert Downey Jr. coming back in some form nobody's fully explained yet, now's the moment to settle the record on everything that got us here.

This list covers every MCU film from Iron Man through Spider-Man: Brand New Day. We built it on what fans and critics actually argue about in forums and reviews, then broke the ties ourselves when the discourse split down the middle. Disagree? Good. That's the whole point of a tier list. Argue with us in the comments.

Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame

The payoff to eleven years of setup, and it mostly sticks the landing. The time-heist structure lets every corner of the franchise get one last moment, and the final battle where every portal opens still gets a reaction in theaters. Some pacing drags in the middle hour, but nobody remembers that part.

The 2019 culmination of the Infinity Saga, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, bringing together virtually every MCU character to undo Thanos's snap.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

A political thriller wearing a superhero costume, and better than most actual political thrillers. The Russo brothers turned Cap from a boy scout into someone genuinely interesting, and the elevator fight remains one of the best action sequences the studio has ever produced.

About Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Released in 2014, this film follows Steve Rogers as he uncovers a conspiracy within S.H.I.E.L.D. that threatens global security. It is often praised as one of the best entries in the MCU for its political thriller tone.

Thanos works because the Russos let him be right, at least in his own head, and that snap ending was a genuine gamble that paid off. Some fans argue this version of Thanos has more depth than his Endgame follow-up, and it's hard to disagree.

About Avengers: Infinity War

James Gunn proved Marvel could do a talking raccoon and a walking tree and still make you cry to a Sam Cooke song. The soundtrack alone turned this into a cultural object outside the theater, which is rare for a movie about space outlaws stealing an orb.

About Guardians of the Galaxy

About Thor: Ragnarok

A 2017 film that reinvents the Thor franchise with a comedic tone, sending Thor into gladiatorial combat on the planet Sakaar while Hela threatens Asgard. Directed by Taika Waititi, it is considered a fan favorite for its humor and style.

Spider-Man: No Way Home

Three generations of Spider-Man in one movie should have collapsed under its own nostalgia, and somehow it didn't. Tobey and Andrew showing up isn't just fan service, it actually gives Tom Holland's Peter a real arc about loss and responsibility.

About Spider-Man: No Way Home

Brings back villains from previous non-MCU Spider-Man film franchises through a multiverse-breaking spell, reuniting Tom Holland's Peter Parker with actors from the Sam Raimi and Amazing Spider-Man series. It became one of the highest-grossing films of all time.

Basically Avengers 2.5, and better than the actual Avengers 2. The airport fight is the best superhero-team-vs-team sequence Marvel's made, though the Vision and Scarlet Witch material gets shortchanged in favor of Team Iron Man versus Team Cap.

About Captain America: Civil War

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Some longtime fans still gripe about Tony Stark's heavy presence overshadowing the 'great power, great responsibility' of it all, but the film itself is a blast.

How we ranked them

We weighed critical consensus, audience reception, and the stuff that actually gets discussed years later: villain quality, emotional payoff, rewatchability, and whether a film moved the MCU forward or just filled a release-date slot. Box office mattered less than whether people still bring the movie up unprompted. Where fan opinion is genuinely split, we say so and explain which way we leaned.

FAQ

What is the best MCU movie ever made?

By broad consensus, Avengers: Endgame, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Black Panther right behind it. Endgame gets the nod for closing out over a decade of storytelling in a way that actually paid off.

What is the worst MCU movie?

The Incredible Hulk consistently ranks lowest across critics and fans, though Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels have both taken that title in more recent rankings.

Is Thor: The Dark World really that bad?

It's become a meme for being forgettable more than actively bad. Recent Phase 4 and 5 films like Quantumania and The Marvels have actually pushed it out of the true bottom tier.

Where does Avengers: Infinity War rank compared to Endgame?

Both sit in our S tier, but plenty of fans argue Infinity War's version of Thanos, with more screen time to build his motivations, is actually the stronger character work of the two films.

Are the Phase 4 and Phase 5 movies worse than earlier MCU films?

Generally, yes, by both critical and audience measures. There are exceptions, like Shang-Chi and Thunderbolts*, but the overall drop-off after Endgame is one of the most agreed-upon points in MCU discourse.

Is Spider-Man: Brand New Day ranked yet?

It's included here since it released in July 2026, but as the newest film its reputation is still settling compared to movies that have had years of rewatches and discussion.
