The rankings below reflect what comes up again and again in owner forums, reliability surveys, and reviews, plus our own take when the fanbase is split down the middle. Think we got one wrong? That's what the comments are for.

SS Tier: The best in the business

FF Tier: Hard to recommend

Bugatti
This feels harsh for a brand that builds some of the fastest production cars ever made, but that's exactly the problem: it's not really a car brand, it's a science project with a price tag nobody can actually use. Zero practicality, zero relevance to anyone outside a handful of collectors.

- Headquarters

Blisteringly fast and genuinely special on a track, but reliability horror stories and brutal depreciation plague ownership. Gorgeous engineering let down by a reputation for things falling apart that cost more to fix than most cars cost new.

- Headquarters
- Woking, United Kingdom
- Founded
- 1963
- Known for

Lamborghini
The loudest, most outrageous cars on this entire list, and that's the whole point, which is also why it lands here: pure spectacle over substance. Owning one is a lifestyle choice, not a practical decision by any stretch.
About Lamborghini
Italian manufacturer of high performance supercars, known for dramatic styling and powerful engines. Lamborghini is owned by the Volkswagen Group through Audi.

How we ranked them
We weighed reliability data and long-term ownership reputation, driving experience and performance, design and brand identity, value for money, and how each brand holds up against its direct competitors. Luxury and exotic brands are judged against other luxury and exotic brands, not against a Corolla. Consensus from owner forums and critic reviews mattered most; we only overrode that consensus when the evidence pointed somewhere else.

Rank these yourselfFAQ
What is the most reliable car brand?
Toyota consistently tops reliability surveys and owner forums, with Honda and Lexus close behind. All three share a reputation for engines and transmissions that go well past 150,000 miles with routine maintenance.
What is the least reliable car brand on this list?
Among mainstream brands, Jaguar, Maserati and Land Rover get flagged most often in reliability surveys. Among exotics, McLaren and Lamborghini have notorious reputations for costly repairs.
Is BMW better than Mercedes-Benz?
It depends what you want. BMW generally wins on driving feel and sharper handling, while Mercedes-Benz usually wins on interior luxury and ride comfort. Both land in our A tier because the gap between them is genuinely close.
Why is Bugatti ranked so low if it's so fast?
Speed isn't the only measure here. Bugatti makes almost no sense as a daily car brand: astronomical cost, tiny production numbers, and zero relevance to how most people actually drive or buy cars.
Which car brands are owned by the same parent company?
Lexus belongs to Toyota, Acura to Honda, Infiniti to Nissan, and Genesis to Hyundai. Jeep, Dodge, Ram and Chrysler are all under Stellantis, while Bentley and Lamborghini both sit within the Volkswagen Group.
What's the best car brand for the money?
Kia and Hyundai get the most praise in forums right now for combining strong warranties, modern features and competitive pricing. Toyota and Honda cost a bit more upfront but win on resale value and long-term reliability.
