My Hero Academia Characters Tier List, Ranked

My Hero Academia has one of the deepest casts in modern shonen, so narrowing it down to a tier list is basically asking for an argument in the comments. We picked 20 of the most talked-about names, heroes, villains and everyone in between, and ranked them based on how fans and critics actually talk about them: impact on the story, how well their Quirk and personality land, and how much people genuinely root for (or fear) them.

This isn't about raw power scaling alone. A character can be weaker than All Might and still rank higher because of what they bring to every scene they're in. Disagree with where we put your favorite? That's half the fun. Rank them yourself and see how close you get.

SS Tier: The faces of the series

Izuku Midoriya (Deku)

Izuku Midoriya (Deku)

The whole series runs through him, from the quirkless kid filling notebooks with hero analysis to someone juggling One For All's accumulated power. His mumbling habit is a meme at this point, but the growth underneath it is the real story.

Shoto Todoroki

Shoto Todoroki

Half-cold half-hot fire and ice, sure, but what hooked people was the family baggage underneath it. The Sports Festival match against Deku where he finally uses his left side is one of the series' most quoted turning points.

Endeavor

Endeavor

The Number One Hero earns his spot through sheer power and a redemption arc that actually sticks. His fights against High End and the Paranormal Liberation Front showed why he carries the title, and his attempts to atone for how he raised Shoto add real weight to the story. Flawed past aside, he backs up every claim with results.

Mirko

Mirko

The Rabbit Hero fights like a one woman army and nearly solos a High End with nothing but raw physicality. No gadgets, no gimmicks, just brutal kicks and an attitude that refuses to back down even mid battle. That combination of pure combat skill and fearless resolve puts her right alongside the top tier heroes.

Tomura Shigaraki

Tomura Shigaraki

The successor to All For One and the true heart of the League, Shigaraki carries both the quirk power and the tragic weight of the entire series. His design, his voice acting, and his slow descent into becoming the next symbol of destruction make him one of the best written villains in modern shonen. He belongs at the top with the other S tier leads because the story itself treats him as Deku's dark mirror.

AA Tier: Carry whole arcs on their back

Katsuki Bakugo
Cover: Wikipedia

Katsuki Bakugo

Loud, abrasive, and somehow one of the best-written arcs in the show. He started as the guy bullying a quirkless kid and ended up genuinely earning his spot as a top hero candidate, which is a harder trick than it sounds.

Himiko Toga
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Himiko Toga

Unsettling in a way most shonen villains don't bother trying for. Her obsession with love and identity gives the League of Villains an actual emotional core instead of just chaos for chaos's sake.

Dabi
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Dabi

Blue flames, a grudge, and a reveal that recontextualizes an entire family. Fans spent years theorizing about him before the story confirmed it, which says a lot about how well his mystery was built.

Shota Aizawa
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Shota Aizawa

Eraser Head is the deadpan teacher everyone wishes they had. His Quirk cancels other Quirks outright, which makes him dangerous in a very unglamorous, no-flash way that fits his whole personality.

All For One
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

All For One

A villain who's been pulling strings since before the story started. He's less a fighter you cheer against and more a looming presence that makes every arc feel like it's building to something.

Tenya Iida
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Tenya Iida

Class president energy through and through. His Recipro Burst arc after Stain gave him real depth, turning him from a rule stickler into someone who understands justice the hard way. Solid speedster support, not flashy enough for the top tier but always reliable.

Mirio Togata
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Mirio Togata

Lemillion earns his A tier on pure heart and sacrifice alone. He lost his Quirk saving Eri and never once complained, which is the kind of selfless resolve that defines a real hero. Even powerless he still fights, still smiles, and still inspires everyone around him.

Tamaki Amajiki
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Tamaki Amajiki

Suneater's Manifest ability makes him one of the strongest fighters in the series, easily top tier in raw power. His crippling social anxiety keeps him grounded and relatable despite being a Big Three student, and his growth arc against Shigaraki's forces proves he deserves serious respect. He sits just below Mirio in the A tier, a quiet powerhouse who steps up when it counts.

Twice
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Twice

Twice is one of the most tragic members of the League, a guy whose self loathing and desperate need for friends makes his quirk and his breakdown hit harder than most villain arcs. His bond with Toga sells the League as an actual found family instead of a random band of baddies. He lands in A tier because the emotional gut punch of his death still lingers long after the fight is over.

Stain
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Stain

The Hero Killer earns his spot through sheer ideological conviction, not raw power. He carved up veteran pros and reshaped Iida and the next generation's view of what being a hero means. His fight scenes still hit harder than villains twice his tier.

Overhaul
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Overhaul

Kai Chisaki runs the Shie Hassaikai with cold precision and his Overhaul quirk makes him one of the most physically terrifying villains in the series. His treatment of Eri and the brutal fight against Deku and Mirio cement him as a genuine threat, not just a talker. He lands in A tier for sheer menace and the lasting impact his arc had on the story, even if he never reaches the heights of the top villains like All For One.

BB Tier: Reliable and well-loved

Eijiro Kirishima
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Eijiro Kirishima

Unbreakable (literally, with Hardening) and endlessly supportive. He's the friend archetype done right, the guy who means it when he calls something manly instead of it being a punchline.

Ochaco Uraraka
Cover: Wikipedia

Ochaco Uraraka

Her Zero Gravity Quirk is more tactically interesting than it gets credit for, and her crush on Deku never swallows her own arc about wanting to support her family. Not flashy, but solid.

Eri
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Eri

A kid who didn't ask for any of what happened to her, and the Shie Hassaikai arc hits harder because of it. Her Rewind Quirk being both a curse and eventually a gift is a nice piece of writing.

Tsuyu Asui
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Tsuyu Asui

Blunt, practical, and usually the first one to say the thing everyone else is thinking. Froppy doesn't get the spotlight as often as the top tier heroes, but she's never wasted screen time.

Momo Yaoyorozu
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Momo Yaoyorozu

Creation is one of the more creative Quirks in the show on paper, and her class president arc about confidence under pressure gives her more depth than the usual smart-kid role.

Denki Kaminari
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Denki Kaminari

Denki's quirk is genuinely strong, overload can turn the tide of a fight, but his brain shorting out after one use drags him back down to average. He's a solid support player and a likable goofball, landing him in C tier alongside the other dependable but unspectacular classmates. Good comic relief, occasional clutch moment, never quite main character material.

Hanta Sero
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Hanta Sero

Tape is a solid quirk for mobility and restraint, and Sero always finds clever ways to use it in a pinch. He never gets the spotlight fights, but he is dependable and likeable, the kind of classmate you want around in a crisis. Not flashy enough to rank higher, but too useful to fall further.

Mei Hatsume
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Mei Hatsume

Mei cares more about her babies than the sports festival rules, and that single minded gadget obsession makes her a fun but limited character. She steals scenes whenever she shows up, but she barely gets enough screen time to rank higher. Support course MVP, main cast afterthought.

CC Tier: Solid but underused

Kyoka Jiro
Cover: Wikipedia

Kyoka Jiro

Earphone Jack is a cool support Quirk and she's got personality to spare, but she's mostly stuck in ensemble scenes rather than driving her own arcs.

Fumikage Tokoyami
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Fumikage Tokoyami

Dark Shadow is one of the more visually striking Quirks in the cast, and the power-versus-control angle is interesting, but he rarely gets enough focus to go deeper than that.

Mina Ashido
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Mina Ashido

Always upbeat, always game for whatever's happening, and her acid Quirk is useful in a fight. She just doesn't get the material the main cast does.

DD Tier: Deserved more screen time

Nejire Hado
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Nejire Hado

One of the Big Three on paper, but she gets noticeably less to do than Mirio or Tamaki in the anime's pacing, and her Wave Motion Quirk doesn't get the spotlight it deserves.

FF Tier: Mostly background presence

Present Mic
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Present Mic

A fun classroom presence and a good voice for hype moments, but strip away the radio-host energy and there's not much story weight here. Mostly background noise, fittingly enough.

Minoru Mineta
Image: My Hero Academia Wiki (Fandom), © its owner

Minoru Mineta

Mineta's quirk is actually useful in a fight, but his constant perverted antics make him one of the most grating characters in the series. He gets some redemption moments here and there, but they never outweigh the cringe he brings to most scenes. Bottom of the list, no debate needed.

How we ranked them

We weighed story impact (how much the plot bends around them), fan reception across forums and reviews, strength and uniqueness of their Quirk, and how well they're written as people, not just power sets. Villains got judged on menace and complexity, heroes on growth and charisma. Where the fandom is genuinely split, we say so and explain which way we leaned and why.

FAQ

Who is the strongest character in My Hero Academia?

In raw power terms, All For One and All Might are usually considered the top tier, with Deku closing the gap as One For All's full power unlocks over the series.

Why is Bakugo so popular despite being a bully early on?

His arc from arrogant rival to someone who genuinely respects and supports Deku is one of the better redemption-adjacent arcs in the show, and fans credit the writing for not rushing it.

Is Shigaraki in this list?

We focused this list on 20 widely discussed characters and kept the villain side to Dabi, Toga, All For One and Kurogiri, but Shigaraki is obviously a major figure in the series too.

Who is the best support Quirk user?

Momo Yaoyorozu's Creation and Kyoka Jiro's Earphone Jack both get a lot of praise for creativity, though Shota Aizawa's Erasure is often called the most strategically powerful.

Does this list include anime-only or manga spoilers?

We kept write-ups general and avoided major late-series spoilers like Dabi's full backstory details beyond what's widely known.
