Demon Slayer Hashira Tier List: All 9 Ranked
Nine of the strongest swordsmen and swordswomen in the Demon Slayer Corps, ranked from absolute legends down to the one who just doesn't hold up next to the rest. This covers combat strength, how much the story leans on them, and how fans actually talk about them online.
Fair warning: this fandom argues about Hashira placement constantly, especially around the middle of the pack. We picked a side where the debates get heated and explain why. Feel free to shout at us about Sanemi.

SS Tier: The legends

Gyomei Himejima
The strongest Hashira going in, and the anime never really pretends otherwise. Blind, built like a wall, and he still cries for every life he couldn't save, which is the whole point of him. His fight against Kokushibo is the clearest showcase of raw Hashira power in the entire series.
About Gyomei Himejima
The Stone Hashira, blind and physically the strongest of the group. Carries deep guilt from his past at a temple orphanage.

- Stone

Kyojuro Rengoku
One movie, one arc, and he became the emotional center of the whole franchise. The Mugen Train fight against Akaza is the moment a lot of casual viewers turned into Demon Slayer fans. His 'set your heart ablaze' speech still gets quoted constantly, and for good reason.
About Kyojuro Rengoku
The Flame Hashira, central to the Mugen Train arc and film. Remembered for his unshakeable positivity and his final battle with Upper Moon Three, Akaza.

AA Tier: Elite and beloved

Shinobu Kocho
Can't physically overpower demons, so she out-thinks and out-poisons them instead, which is a genuinely clever workaround the show takes seriously. Her fight with Doma is brutal and tragic in equal measure. Fans love her for being the one Hashira who wins with brains over brawn.
About Shinobu Kocho
The Insect Hashira, who uses poison-laced blades since she lacks the strength to behead demons outright. Serves as a mentor figure to Tanjiro and Nezuko.
- Breathing Style
- Insect

Tengen Uzui
Loud, flashy, calls himself a god, and somehow earns it during the Entertainment District arc. He loses an arm and an eye taking down Daki and Gyutaro and retires right after, which is a rare case of a shonen character actually getting to walk away. Fans rank him high just for the sheer charisma.
About Tengen Uzui
The Sound Hashira, a former shinobi turned flamboyant Demon Slayer. Leads the Entertainment District arc and retires from the Corps after being badly injured.

Mitsuri Kanroji
Her Love Breathing style looks unlike anything else in the series, and her unique muscle density makes her hits land harder than her frame suggests. The slow-burn connection with Obanai is one of the more genuinely sweet threads in the Corps. Underrated by casual viewers, properly respected by anyone who's seen her fight.
About Mitsuri Kanroji
The Love Hashira, with unusually dense and flexible muscles that give her deceptive strength. Known for her romantic storyline with Obanai Iguro.

- Love
BB Tier: Strong but debated

Muichiro Tokito
Youngest Hashira, and arguably the one with the scariest ceiling given how fast he picked up Mist Breathing. His amnesia backstory gives him more going on than his quiet demeanor suggests. Fans are split on ranking him this high since he's still figuring out his own power, but the potential is obvious.
About Muichiro Tokito
The Mist Hashira, the youngest of the group, who developed his own breathing derivative quickly despite amnesia tied to a tragic past.
- Breathing Style
- Mist

Obanai Iguro
Snake Breathing is a cool gimmick and his loyalty to Mitsuri gives him more heart than his prickly attitude lets on. He doesn't get the spotlight fights some others do, which keeps him from ranking higher despite solid feats. A fan favorite in the side material more than the main arcs.
About Obanai Iguro
The Snake Hashira, who fights alongside his companion snake Kaburamaru. Close to Mitsuri Kanroji and known for his rigid sense of justice.
- Breathing Style
- Serpent

Sanemi Shinazugawa
Short-tempered, scarred up, and carrying a grudge against demons that explains a lot once his backstory lands. Wind Breathing makes him one of the more aggressive fighters in the Corps. He's a divisive one: some fans love the chip on his shoulder, others find him exhausting until the final arc humanizes him.
About Sanemi Shinazugawa
The Wind Hashira, known for his aggressive fighting style and deep-seated hatred of demons rooted in family tragedy.

- Wind
CC Tier: Respected, not ranked high on feats

Giyu Tomioka
The one who saved Tanjiro in episode one and kicked off the entire series, which buys him permanent goodwill. But compared to the rest of this lineup, his screen time and standout moments are surprisingly thin for how early he's introduced. Fans respect him as a gateway character more than as a top-tier fighter in the conversation.
About Giyu Tomioka
The Water Hashira and the first member of the Demon Slayer Corps Tanjiro ever meets. Known for his stoic demeanor and his early act of mercy toward Nezuko.

How we ranked them
We weighed raw combat feats (demon kills, Breathing Style mastery, how they fared against Upper Moons), narrative impact on the Demon King arc, and how consistently fans and critics praise or criticize them across forums and reviews. Emotional depth and character writing counted too. Where the fandom is split down the middle, we made a call and said so.

Rank these yourselfFAQ
Who is the strongest Hashira in Demon Slayer?
Gyomei Himejima is widely considered the strongest, based on his raw physical power and performance against Kokushibo.
Why is Giyu Tomioka ranked low despite being so popular?
He's popular because he's the first Hashira introduced and saved Tanjiro, but his combat showcases are thinner compared to Hashira like Rengoku or Gyomei, so he ranks lower on pure feats and fight impact.
Is Kyojuro Rengoku the strongest Hashira?
No, but his fight against Akaza in Mugen Train made him one of the most beloved, thanks to the emotional weight of the arc rather than raw ranking among Hashira.
Which Hashira has the most unique Breathing Style?
Mitsuri Kanroji's Love Breathing and Muichiro Tokito's Mist Breathing both stand out for being derived forms with distinct visual flair not shared by the original styles.
Do fans agree on this Hashira ranking?
Mostly on the top and bottom, but the middle (Muichiro, Obanai, Sanemi) is heavily debated across forums, so this list makes a judgment call where consensus is split.
