Jujutsu Kaisen Characters Tier List, Ranked
Jujutsu Kaisen has one of the deepest casts in modern shonen, and arguing about who's actually the best character is half the fun. We've ranked the nine biggest names in the series, from the strongest-willed protagonists to the curses that make the whole thing terrifying.
This list reflects where fan and critic consensus lands after years of forum debates, tier threads and post-chapter meltdowns, with our own take added where the fandom genuinely splits (looking at you, Megumi discourse). Disagree? That's the point. Make your own list and see where the gaps are.

SS Tier: The faces of the franchise

Satoru Gojo
The strongest sorcerer alive and somehow also the funniest guy in the room, which is a rare combo to pull off without one undercutting the other. Gojo's blindfold-and-sunglasses silhouette is basically the franchise's logo at this point, and his Domain Expansion moment is the scene most people point to when they explain why this show blew up. He's also the emotional center of the whole story, teacher, big brother figure, and tragic case study all at once.
About Satoru Gojo
Widely considered the strongest jujutsu sorcerer alive, teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High, and user of the Limitless and Six Eyes techniques.
- Technique
- Limitless / Six Eyes
- Role
- Teacher

Ryomen Sukuna
The King of Curses earns the hype. Sukuna doesn't monologue about evil, he just casually dismantles people while sounding bored, and that restraint is what makes him so unsettling. Centuries-old, terrifyingly efficient, and written with just enough personality (that dry contempt) to be more than a wall for the heroes to climb.
About Ryomen Sukuna
An ancient and immensely powerful curse known as the King of Curses, sealed inside Yuji Itadori for most of the series.
- Title
- King of Curses
AA Tier: Carry the whole story

Yuji Itadori
A shonen lead who actually gets interrogated by his own story: is being kind enough when the world keeps forcing him to kill? Yuji's arc with Sukuna living in his body gives him stakes most protagonists don't get, and his fights hit harder because you know exactly what he's fighting to protect. Not flashy in design, but the moral weight he carries makes him more than a typical punch-happy hero.
About Yuji Itadori
The main protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, a high schooler who becomes Sukuna's vessel after eating one of his fingers. Created by Gege Akutami.
- Role
- Protagonist
- Affiliation
- Tokyo Jujutsu High

Suguru Geto
The best written villain turn in the series, full stop. Geto's fall from idealistic sorcerer to curse-collecting extremist is slow and makes awful sense, which is exactly why it's so effective. His friendship-turned-rivalry with Gojo still drives huge chunks of the plot years after the fact, and that's rare for a character who's been largely offscreen as his original self.
About Suguru Geto
A former sorcerer and Gojo's old classmate who turned against humanity, becoming one of the series' central antagonists.
- Technique
- Cursed Spirit Manipulation

Toji Fushiguro
Zero cursed energy, maximum menace. Toji is proof the series doesn't need domain expansions to make a fight terrifying, just a guy with a cursed tool and perfect technique. His flashback arc reframes Gojo's entire character and gives us one of the single best fight sequences in the anime. Pure fan-favorite material, and deservedly so.
About Toji Fushiguro
A legendary assassin known as the Sorcerer Killer, notable for having zero cursed energy yet defeating powerful sorcerers through pure skill. Megumi's father.
- Nickname
- Sorcerer Killer
BB Tier: Great, just not the center of it

Megumi Fushiguro
Solid, well-designed power set (Divine Dogs and the Nue are genuinely cool), but Megumi spends a lot of the story being quietly overshadowed by louder personalities around him. Fans are split here: some love his understated, duty-first attitude, others find him a bit flat compared to Yuji and Nobara. We lean toward 'underused' rather than 'bad', his family backstory with Toji and Sukuna has set up a lot of potential.
About Megumi Fushiguro
A first-year sorcerer and Yuji's close ally, user of the Ten Shadows Technique. Son of Toji Fushiguro.
- Technique
- Ten Shadows
- Affiliation
- Tokyo Jujutsu High

Nobara Kugisaki
Hammer, nails, and zero patience for nonsense, Nobara's straightarrow confidence made her an instant favorite. Her fight choreography is some of the most creative in the series, and her friendship with Yuji and Megumi grounds the early arcs. She loses a little ranking room only because the story sidelines her for long stretches.
About Nobara Kugisaki
A first-year sorcerer who uses a hammer, nails, and straw doll technique called Resonance. Known for her confident, headstrong personality.
- Technique
- Straw Doll (Resonance)
- Affiliation
- Tokyo Jujutsu High

Yuta Okkotsu
Technically one of the strongest sorcerers in the setting, and the movie gave him a genuinely moving backstory with Rika. The issue is exposure: Yuta's been mostly absent from the main manga/anime timeline compared to the others on this list, so he reads more as a huge payoff waiting to happen than a fully realized presence yet.
About Yuta Okkotsu
A sorcerer introduced as the protagonist of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, originally bound to the cursed spirit of his childhood friend Rika.
- Introduced in
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0
CC Tier: Fan favorites waiting on more screen time

Maki Zen'in
Maki's a fan favorite for good reason, her no-cursed-energy workaround and her revenge arc against the Zen'in clan are great on paper. She lands lower here mainly because her material hasn't gotten as much screen time as the others, which makes her feel like a strong supporting character rather than a top-tier lead, at least so far.
About Maki Zen'in
A sorcerer from the Zen'in clan who, despite lacking cursed energy, is a formidable fighter skilled with cursed tools.
- Affiliation
- Zen'in Clan / Tokyo Jujutsu High
How we ranked them
We weighed narrative impact, how well-written and consistent the character is, their popularity and cultural footprint (memes, merch, fan art count for something), and how much they shape the plot versus just reacting to it. Power level matters but it's not everything, Toji proves that. Where the fandom is split down the middle, we say so and explain which way we leaned and why.

Who is the strongest character in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Fans generally put Gojo and Sukuna at the top of the power scale, with their clash being one of the most anticipated fights in the series.

A lot of fans think so. His powers are strong and his backstory with Toji is huge, but he often gets less spotlight than Yuji and Nobara.

His flashback arc shows a regular human beating sorcerers through sheer skill and a cursed tool, and his fight with young Gojo is considered one of the show's best.
Is Yuta Okkotsu stronger than Gojo?
It's debated. Some material suggests Yuta can rival or surpass Gojo, but he hasn't had enough screen time yet for fans to fully agree.
Who is the best written villain in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Suguru Geto is widely considered the most compelling villain because of his slow, believable fall from hero to extremist.
