Spider-Man Movies Tier List: All 11 Ranked
Three different Peter Parkers, two animated miracles, and one upcoming wildcard. We put all eleven live-action and animated Spider-Man films in one list, from the webslinger's best nights out to the ones we'd rather forget.
This reflects what fans and critics actually argue about on forums and in reviews, not just one person's gut feeling. Where the consensus is split (looking at you, Amazing Spider-Man era), we picked a lane and explained why. Disagree? That's half the fun of a tier list. Rank them yourself and see where your list diverges.

SS Tier: The best Spider-Man has ever been

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Visually it's the most ambitious animated film maybe ever made, with every universe getting its own art style. The Gwen Stacy watercolor sequences alone justify the ticket price. The cliffhanger ending annoyed some people waiting for the finale, but that's a quibble next to everything else it pulls off.
About Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
The 2023 sequel expanding the multiverse concept with distinct animation styles for each dimension.
- Year
- 2023

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Changed what animated superhero movies could look like and sound like, down to the comic-book halftone dots on screen. Miles Morales finally got a movie that trusted him to be the lead instead of a footnote. It won the Oscar for a reason.
About Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
The 2018 animated film introducing Miles Morales to mainstream audiences, winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
- Year
- 2018
- Award
- Oscar, Best Animated Feature

Spider-Man 2
The one that convinced a generation Spider-Man could be genuinely great cinema, not just a fun popcorn movie. Doc Ock is one of the best villains the genre has produced, and the train rescue scene still gets people every time. Sam Raimi balancing Peter's crumbling life with real heart is the template everyone's chased since.
About Spider-Man 2
The 2004 sequel widely regarded as a high point of the superhero genre, featuring Alfred Molina as Doc Ock.
- Director
- Sam Raimi
- Year
- 2004
AA Tier: Great, with maybe one flaw

Spider-Man: No Way Home
Three Spider-Men, two Green Goblins, and somehow it mostly earns the fan-service spectacle instead of just coasting on it. Willem Dafoe comes back and immediately reminds everyone why his Goblin was terrifying in the first place. It's a victory lap, but it's a well-earned one.
About Spider-Man: No Way Home
The 2021 multiverse crossover reuniting actors from all three live-action Spider-Man eras.
- Director
- Jon Watts
- Year
- 2021

Spider-Man (2002)
The original blueprint, and it still holds up better than people give it credit for. Tobey Maguire's awkward-kid-becomes-hero arc feels genuine, not performed, and the organic webshooters debate still rages on forums two decades later. A little dated in spots, but the heart is real.
About Spider-Man (2002)
Directed by Sam Raimi, this launched the modern superhero movie boom with Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. It introduced the Green Goblin as the first big-screen villain.
- Director
- Sam Raimi
- Lead
- Tobey Maguire

Spider-Man: Homecoming
Smartly shrinks the stakes down to a kid trying to prove himself, which is exactly what the character needed after two bloated reboots. Michael Keaton's Vulture is a working-class villain with an actual point of view, which is rarer than it should be in this genre.
About Spider-Man: Homecoming
Tom Holland's first solo outing as Spider-Man within the MCU, released in 2017 with Michael Keaton as the Vulture.
- Director
- Jon Watts
- Year
- 2017
BB Tier: Solid, enjoyable, a little uneven

Spider-Man: Far From Home
Mysterio's illusion sequences are a genuine highlight, some of the trippiest visuals the MCU has put on screen. It sags a bit as a European vacation movie before the plot kicks in, but the twist ending reshuffles the whole series in a way few sequels bother to attempt.
About Spider-Man: Far From Home
The 2019 follow-up sending Peter Parker to Europe, co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio.
- Director
- Jon Watts
- Year
- 2019

The Amazing Spider-Man
Andrew Garfield nails the wisecracking, quippy Spider-Man better than anyone before him, and the Gwen Stacy relationship has real chemistry behind it. The lizard villain and the rehashed origin story drag it down, and fans still debate whether this reboot even needed to happen so soon.
About The Amazing Spider-Man
A 2012 reboot starring Andrew Garfield, restarting the origin story with a focus on Gwen Stacy and Dr. Curt Connors.
- Director
- Marc Webb
- Year
- 2012
CC Tier: Mixed bag, your mileage will vary

Spider-Man 3
Everyone remembers the emo dance scene, and honestly that's the problem: three villains crammed into one movie leaves no room for any of them to land. There are good ideas buried in here about Peter's ego getting the better of him, but the execution is a mess most fans have made peace with mocking.
About Spider-Man 3
The divisive 2007 conclusion to Raimi's trilogy, juggling Venom, Sandman, and the Green Goblin's son.
- Director
- Sam Raimi
- Year
- 2007

Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Still unreleased as of this writing, so this is a placeholder more than a verdict. Early buzz and casting news have fans cautiously curious rather than genuinely hyped, which is its own kind of signal. We'll revisit this the moment it actually hits theaters.
About Spider-Man: Brand New Day
An upcoming MCU Spider-Man film continuing Tom Holland's story [CHECK details as they're confirmed].

FF Tier: The one everyone agrees on

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Jamie Foxx's Electro looks like a rejected video game boss, and the movie crams in villain-team setup for spinoffs that never happened. Gwen Stacy's death is genuinely well done, but it's surrounded by so much studio-mandated clutter that it barely registers. This is the one that killed the reboot franchise, and pretty much nobody disagrees.
About The Amazing Spider-Man 2
The 2014 sequel that introduced Electro and Green Goblin while setting up a planned villain spinoff universe that never materialized.
- Director
- Marc Webb
- Year
- 2014
How we ranked them
We weighed critical reception, how each film holds up on rewatch, its impact on the superhero genre, and plain old fan sentiment from reviews and discussion threads. Box office mattered less than whether the movie actually works as a Spider-Man story. Where fans are genuinely split, we say so and explain the call we made.
