Spider-Man Actors Tier List
Three actors, three completely different Peter Parkers, one argument that never really ends. We're ranking Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland based on what fans and critics have been hashing out for years across forums, reviews and way too many YouTube comment sections.
This isn't about who had the best suit or the best villain. It's about who made you believe they were Peter Parker, awkward, broke and in over his head, as much as Spider-Man. Disagree with the order? That's half the fun. Rank them yourself below.

SS Tier: The definitive Spider-Man

Tobey Maguire
Maguire is still the reference point for a reason. He made the nerdy Peter Parker stuff feel real, the kind of guy who gets his butt kicked at the Daily Bugle and still has to make rent, and Spider-Man 2 remains the high-water mark the other two eras get measured against. Yes, the dancing scene in Spider-Man 3 is rough, but one bad movie doesn't erase two genuinely great ones.
About Tobey Maguire
Maguire played Peter Parker in Sam Raimi's trilogy starting in 2002, the film that proved superhero movies could be box office giants outside of Batman and Superman. He's also known for Seabiscuit, The Cider House Rules and Pleasantville.
- First film
- Spider-Man (2002)
- Films as Spider-Man
- 3
- Director
- Sam Raimi
AA Tier: Excellent, no real complaints

Tom Holland
Holland is the first actor to actually play Peter as a teenager, and it shows in every nervous line reading and botched excuse to May. His trilogy benefits from the full weight of the MCU behind it, which helps and occasionally hurts, since Iron Man and a small army of other heroes keep crowding his story. Still, No Way Home gave him the most emotionally loaded Spider-Man moment on film, and fans largely agree he's earned his spot next to Maguire.
About Tom Holland
Holland debuted as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (2016) before headlining his own trilogy inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's the youngest of the three actors cast in the role and the first to play Peter Parker as an actual teenager on screen.
- First appearance
- Captain America: Civil War (2016)
- Films as Spider-Man
- 3 solo films plus crossovers
- Director
- Jon Watts
BB Tier: Solid, with some gripes

Andrew Garfield
Garfield gets an unfair rap for movies that were more at fault than he was. His Peter Parker is funnier and more physically convincing swinging through the city than people give him credit for, and his chemistry with Emma Stone is the clear high point of his run. The films around him just didn't give him the villains or the pacing to match what Maguire and Holland got, which is why he lands in the middle despite a performance plenty of fans have come around on.
About Andrew Garfield
Garfield took over the role in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, bringing a quippier, more athletic take on the character before the series was cut short after two films. He later earned acclaim for Hacksaw Ridge and tick, tick... BOOM!.
- First film
- The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
- Films as Spider-Man
- 2 (plus No Way Home)
- Director
- Marc Webb
How we ranked them
We weighed how each actor balanced the dorky, overwhelmed Peter Parker side of the character against the wisecracking hero side, since that's the whole point of Spider-Man. We also factored in the quality of their films, chemistry with supporting casts, and how their take on the role has aged with audiences. Consensus from fan discussions and critic reviews mattered most, with our own judgment used to break ties where opinions are genuinely split.
