Final Destination Movies Tier List: All 6 Ranked
Death's got a design and it's coming for all six of these, so let's rank them. The Final Destination franchise runs on one brilliant hook: a premonition saves a group of people, then Death picks them off in the order they were supposed to die, usually with a Rube Goldberg machine built out of household objects and bad luck.
We're ranking all six entries, from the original that started it all to the recent Bloodlines, based on what fans and critics actually think, pulled from forums, review aggregates and years of horror-community arguing, with our own take added where the consensus gets messy. Agree or disagree, that's what the comments are for.

SS Tier: The gold standard

Final Destination 2
The log truck opening is the single best set piece the franchise ever produced, a slow-motion highway pileup that still gets quoted by people who've never seen the rest of the movie. It takes the original's formula and makes the deaths meaner, funnier and more inventive, with the barbed wire fence and the pane of glass among the all-time great kills.
About Final Destination 2
The 2003 sequel centered on a massive highway pileup triggered by a log truck, widely regarded as the series' best opening sequence. It expanded the mythology around Death's design and survivor chains.

- 2003

Final Destination
The one that started it, and it's leaner and creepier than almost anything that followed. Devon Sawa's Flight 180 premonition is genuinely unsettling, and the slow-build dread of knowing Death is coming for these kids one by one hits harder here than in the sequels that leaned into spectacle. It didn't need gore to be scary, it needed timing.
About Final Destination
The 2000 original that launched the franchise, following a group of students who survive a doomed Flight 180 after one of them has a premonition. Directed by James Wong, it set the template of survivors being hunted by Death in sequence.

AA Tier: Genuinely great

Final Destination Bloodlines
A legacy sequel that actually earns the word, going back to a family curse with a origin-disaster sequence (the Skyview tower collapse) that ranks among the series' best. Fans who'd written off the franchise after a decade-plus gap came away surprised at how much Bloodlines respects what made the originals work while still finding new, inventive ways to kill people.
About Final Destination Bloodlines
The most recent entry in the franchise, tying a family's recurring brushes with Death back to an origin disaster. Praised by fans as a strong return to form after a long gap between films.

- Latest installment

Final Destination 3
The rollercoaster derailment is up there with the log truck as franchise-defining horror, and the photograph gimmick (clues to each death hidden in snapshots) gave fans something to actually theorize about. Tanning bed scene aside, this is where the series leaned fully into gleeful, over-the-top kills and mostly got away with it.
About Final Destination 3
A 2006 entry set around a rollercoaster disaster, notable for its photograph-clue gimmick that let viewers try to predict each death. It leaned further into dark humor and elaborate kills.
- Released
- 2006

Final Destination 5
A late-series highlight that a lot of people slept on, with a bridge collapse opener that rivals the best in the franchise and a gymnastics-beam kill that makes you wince every time. The twist ending ties back to the original film in a way that actually rewards longtime fans instead of feeling like a gimmick.
About Final Destination 5
A 2011 installment opening with a suspension bridge collapse, often praised for returning to the series' stronger suspense-driven roots and for its twist ending linking back to the original film.
- Released
- 2011
DD Tier: Death phoned it in

The Final Destination
The one where the series ran out of ideas and leaned on 3D gimmickry instead, dropping the Roman numeral for a title that somehow still confuses people in conversation. The racetrack opening has its moments, but the kills feel lazier and the characters are thinner than in any other entry. Most fans agree this is the weak link.
About The Final Destination
The fourth film, released in 2009, dropped the numbering and was presented in 3D, built around a speedway crash. It's generally seen as the franchise's low point.
- Released
- 2009
How we ranked them
We weighed how clever and memorable the death sequences are, how much genuine suspense the premonition sequences build, and whether the kills feel earned rather than just gross. We also factored in how each film holds up against the series' own gold standard, how fans rank it in forum threads and retrospectives, and critical reception at the time versus its current cult reputation.
