Kanye West Albums Ranked: Every Project From Worst to Best
Fifteen albums (counting the duo and group projects he's central to) and two decades of a guy who's never once made a boring record. Love him, mute him on Twitter, whatever: the music is the thing that lasts, and it swings from generational to genuinely baffling.
We're ranking the full run here, from The College Dropout to the 2024 Vultures era and the quietly released Bully. Here's how we see the stack up, and where fans still fight about it.

SS Tier: The untouchables

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
The comeback album that doubled as a victory lap over his own public meltdown. 'Runaway' alone, that slow-build toast to 'douchebags' and 'assholes,' is one of the best album centerpieces of the 2010s. Maximalist, obsessive, and somehow never bloated despite the thirteen-minute closer.
About My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
A maximalist, guest-heavy album widely considered the creative peak of his catalog, made largely in Hawaii.
- Released
- 2010
- Notable track
- Runaway

The College Dropout
The debut that invented his whole lane: chipmunk soul, backpack-rap humor, church-choir sincerity, all at once. 'Through the Wire' recorded with his jaw wired shut is the origin story, and 'Jesus Walks' got actual radio play for a song about faith. It still sounds like a guy with something to prove.
About The College Dropout
Kanye West's debut studio album, built around sped-up soul samples and introspective lyrics about school, faith and ambition.
- Released
- 2004
- Notable track
- Jesus Walks

Late Registration
Bringing in Jon Brion for the orchestration was the move that separated him from every other rapper-producer at the time. 'Gold Digger' is the hit everyone knows, but 'Roses' and 'Hey Mama' show the emotional range that made this feel like a real leap, not just a sequel.
About Late Registration
His second album, co-produced with Jon Brion, which introduced live orchestration into his sample-based sound.
- Released
- 2005
- Notable track
- Gold Digger
AA Tier: Genuinely great records

Kids See Ghosts
Seven tracks with Kid Cudi and barely a wasted second. 'Reborn' is as direct and moving as Kanye's ever been on record, and Cudi's hums do half the emotional work. Short, but it doesn't feel unfinished, it feels edited.
About Kids See Ghosts
A collaborative album with Kid Cudi released under the duo name Kids See Ghosts.
- Released
- 2018
- Notable track
- Reborn

Graduation
The album that traded soul samples for stadium synths and basically wrote the blueprint for arena rap-pop. 'Stronger' sampling Daft Punk was a flex and a hit at the same time. Some fans still call this his most purely enjoyable front-to-back listen.
About Graduation
A shift toward stadium-sized synth production, aimed squarely at arenas rather than backpack-rap crowds.
- Released
- 2007
- Notable track
- Stronger

The Life of Pablo
Messy by design, a 'living' album he kept editing after release, and somehow that chaos works in its favor. 'Ultralight Beam' is a gospel opener for the ages, 'Famous' got him in trouble, and 'Wolves' and 'FML' show real vulnerability under the noise.
About The Life of Pablo
A sprawling, frequently revised album released first as a streaming exclusive, blending gospel, rap and experimental production.
- Released
- 2016
- Notable track
- Ultralight Beam

808s & Heartbreak
Auto-Tuned grief that confused people in 2008 and then quietly reshaped the next fifteen years of pop and rap. Without this record there's no Drake, no Travis Scott, probably no modern emo-rap at all. 'Street Lights' and 'Coldest Winter' are as bleak and beautiful as he's ever gotten.
About 808s & Heartbreak
A stripped-down, Auto-Tune-heavy album about heartbreak and loss, recorded after the death of his mother and a broken engagement.
- Released
- 2008
- Notable track
- Heartless
BB Tier: Very good, with real flaws

Watch the Throne
Two guys at their most extravagant trading luxury-rap bars over Hit-Boy and RZA beats. 'N****s in Paris' became a cultural meme machine, and 'No Church in the Wild' is still a great opener. It's a victory lap collab more than a personal Kanye statement, which is why it sits just below his solo peaks.
About Watch the Throne
A joint album with Jay-Z built around luxury rap themes and lavish, maximalist production.
- Released
- 2011
- Notable track
- N****s in Paris

Yeezus
Ten tracks of industrial, abrasive minimalism that traded samples for distortion and screamed instead of sang half the time. 'Blood on the Leaves' flipping Nina Simone is a genuine high point. Divisive on release and still divisive now, some fans rank it near the top, others find it a chore.
About Yeezus
A stark, industrial-influenced record that stripped away samples in favor of distortion and minimalism.
- Released
- 2013
- Notable track
- Blood on the Leaves

Ye
Seven songs recorded fast in Wyoming right after the 'slavery was a choice' fallout, and it feels like it. 'Ghost Town' with 070 Shake is a genuine highlight that almost redeems the shorter, thinner tracklist around it.
About Ye
A short, seven-track album recorded quickly in Wyoming amid major public controversy.
- Released
- 2018
- Notable track
- Ghost Town
CC Tier: Divisive but worth defending

Donda
Named for his mother, bloated past 25 tracks, and stuffed with rollout drama (multiple listening events, Marilyn Manson showing up). 'Jail' and 'Moon' land, but the sprawl means most people have a different favorite cut and a different skip list. Fans are genuinely split on whether there's a great 12-song album buried in here.
About Donda
A long, rollout-heavy album named after his late mother, released after multiple public listening events.
- Released
- 2021
- Notable track
- Jail

Vultures 1
The Ty Dolla $ign team-up that leans into chaos and controversy as much as the music itself. 'Carnival' has an undeniable energy live and on record, but the album as a whole feels like a mixtape dressed up as an album.
About Vultures 1
A joint album with Ty Dolla $ign released under the name ¥$, marking a new collaborative chapter.
- Released
- 2024
DD Tier: Rough listens with moments

Vultures 2
The weaker half of the Vultures duology, thinner on hooks and heavier on filler. A handful of interesting beats can't carry a tracklist that feels assembled rather than written.
About Vultures 2
The second installment of the ¥$ project with Ty Dolla $ign, following shortly after Vultures 1.
- Released
- 2024

Bully
A quieter, lower-key release that most casual fans haven't even caught up with yet. There are flashes of the old production instinct, but it plays more like a stopgap than a statement.
About Bully
A lower-profile, more quietly released project in his recent catalog.
FF Tier: The low point

Jesus Is King
The gospel album that felt more like a mission statement than a collection of songs, short runtimes and all. 'Follow God' is genuinely good, but too much of the tracklist feels like sermon notes set to beat, not the fully realized gospel record fans wanted after the Sunday Service years.
About Jesus Is King
A gospel-focused album tied to his Sunday Service performances, emphasizing Christian themes.
- Released
- 2019
- Notable track
- Follow God
How we ranked them
We weighed critical reception at release, how each album has aged, cultural impact (samples, fashion, production trends it kicked off) and plain old replay value. Consensus from fan forums and critic reviews drove most of the order. Where the discourse is split down the middle, like Yeezus versus Graduation or where Donda lands, we made a call and explained our reasoning rather than dodge it.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is the most common pick for his best, though The College Dropout and Late Registration both get serious support in any fan debate.

Jesus Is King is the most frequent pick for his weakest project, mainly for its short, underdeveloped tracklist.

It depends who you ask. Some fans consider it a bold, ahead-of-its-time pivot, others find its abrasive sound a rough listen. We landed in the middle, in B tier.

They're billed as joint projects with Ty Dolla $ign under the ¥$ name, but we included them here since Kanye is a primary creative force on both.
